GUN RUNNER COLT CLOCKS FASTEST FURLONG AND SELLS FOR A RECORD-SETTING 3 MILLION DOLLARS
Gun Runner made headlines at the 2025 OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale with Hip 654, a gray colt consigned by longtime Ocala horseman Eddie Woods with an incredible price.
A few weeks before, the colt turned in a blazing :09 3/5 eighth-mile breeze—tying for the fastest of the show—and instantly became a standout among buyers and spectators alike. As the first foal out of the Liam’s Map mare Tynan, a half-sister to graded stakes winners Pappacap and Boppy O, the colt boasts an elite pedigree, making him a three-quarter sibling to Pappacap.
On the final day of the sale, Hip 654 lived up to every bit of his billing, selling for a record-setting $3 million to Donato Lanni, agent for Zedan Racing. The colt shattered the previous OBS record of $2.45 million, marking a historic moment for both Woods and the sale company. “He wasn’t a secret. Everyone loved him,” said Lanni. “Gun Runner is a tremendous stallion. This colt did everything right—worked well, galloped out strong, and showed all the signs of a top prospect.”
For Eddie Woods, the sale was both a professional triumph and an emotional milestone, as he prepares to offer his final consignment at the upcoming OBS April sale. Reflecting on Hip 654, Woods praised the colt’s physical and mental maturity: “He’s very well made, very balanced looking—and he’s a Gun Runner. They just run.” In a career spanning over three decades, Woods couldn’t have asked for a more fitting highlight as he nears the close of his legendary run by setting a record sales price when the gavel went down.
